How to Pray the Stations
These reflections tell real stories of immigrants that reflect Christ’s suffering today.
A period of silence is observed after each Scripture reading.

God of power and mercy, in love you sent your Son that we might be cleansed

Bless us as we gather to reflect on his suffering and death, that we may learn from his
example the way we should go. We ask this through Christ, our Lord.

FIRST STATION
Jesus Is Condemned to Death
Scripture — Mark 15:1–5, 15
“The chief priests with the elders and the scribes held a council. They bound Jesus, led
him away, and handed him over to Pilate. Pilate questioned him, ‘Are you the king of
the Jews?’ He said to him in reply, ‘You say so.’ … Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, handed Jesus over to be crucified.”
Reflection
Daniela, a Venezuelan lawyer, refused to falsify cases for a new regime despite
threats of death. She was forced to leave her family, country, and profession to
remain faithful to her conscience.

PRIMERA ESTACIÓN
Jesús es condenado a muerte
Lectura Bíblica — Marcos 15:1–5, 15
“Los sumos sacerdotes con los ancianos y los escribas celebraron consejo. Ataron
a Jesús, se lo llevaron y lo entregaron a Pilato. Pilato le preguntó: ‘¿Eres tú el
rey de los judíos?’ Él respondió: ‘Tú lo dices.’ … Pilato, queriendo satisfacer a
la gente, entregó a Jesús para que lo crucificaran.”
Reflexión
Daniela, abogada venezolana, se negó a falsificar casos para el nuevo régimen a
pesar de las amenazas de muerte. Se vio obligada a abandonar a su familia,
su país y su profesión para mantenerse fiel a su conciencia.

SECOND STATION
Jesus Carries the Cross
Scripture — John 19:6, 15–17
“They cried out, ‘Take him away! Crucify him!’ … Then he handed him over to
them to be crucified. So they took Jesus, and carrying the cross himself he went
out to what is called the Place of the Skull, in Hebrew, Golgotha.”
Reflection
Geraldine and her family fled violence and poverty. Though they now live in severe
hardship, she smiles with hope, trusting that her life is in God’s hands.

SEGUNDA ESTACIÓN
Jesús carga con la cruz

Reflexión
Geraldine y su familia huyeron de la violencia y la pobreza. Aunque viven
en condiciones muy difíciles, ella sonríe con esperanza, confiando en que su vida
está en manos de Dios.

THIRD STATION
Jesus Falls the First Time
Scripture — Isaiah 53:4–6
“Yet it was our pain that he bore, our sufferings he endured. … He was pierced for
our sins, crushed for our iniquity. He bore the punishment that makes us whole;
by his wounds we were healed.”
Reflection
María survived the jungle crossing and Gustavo survived kidnapping.
Both testified simply: “God was with me.”

TERCERA ESTACIÓN
Jesús cae por primera vez
Lectura Bíblica — Isaías 53:4–6

nos trae la paz, y con sus llagas hemos sido curados.”

María sobrevivió el cruce de la selva y Gustavo sobrevivió un secuestro.

FOURTH STATION
Jesus Meets His Mother
Scripture — John 19:25–27
“Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister…
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved,
he said to his mother, ‘Woman, behold, your son.’
Then he said to the disciple, ‘Behold, your mother.’”
Reflection
Marisol carried her daughter’s ashes after a tragic drowning at sea. In her grief,
she placed the urn on the altar and entrusted her sorrow to God.
Holy Mother, help us bear life’s burdens until we share eternal peace.

CUARTA ESTACIÓN
Jesús se encuentra con su Madre
Lectura Bíblica — Juan 19:25–27

Reflexión
Marisol llevaba las cenizas de su hija tras un trágico ahogamiento en el mar.
En su dolor, colocó la urna en el altar y encomendó su pena a Dios.

FIFTH STATION
Simon Helps Jesus Carry the Cross
Scripture — Mark 15:21
“They pressed into service a passer-by, Simon, a Cyrenian, who was
coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus,
to carry his cross.”
Reflection
José, once impoverished in Honduras, now serves his community generously
—even helping a neighbor who once wronged him.
Lord, teach me to be generous.

QUINTA ESTACIÓN
Simón ayuda a llevar la cruz
Lectura Bíblica — Marcos 15:21

Reflexión
José, que una vez vivió en la pobreza en Honduras, ahora sirve a su comunidad con generosidad, incluso ayudando a un vecino que alguna vez le ofendió.

Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus
Scripture — Isaiah 53:2–3

He was spurned and avoided by men, a man of suffering, knowing pain.”
Reflection
In migrant camps, countless women comfort one another, share food,
and care for the wounded, revealing Christ’s face in compassion.

SEXTA ESTACIÓN
La Verónica enjuga el rostro de Jesús

Jesus Falls the Second Time

Reflection
A family kidnapped despite having legal appointments
endured humiliation and ransom before starting the process again.

Jesús cae por segunda vez

Una familia secuestrada a pesar de tener citas legales soportó humillaciones
y rescate antes de comenzar de nuevo el proceso.

Jesus Meets the Women of Jerusalem
Scripture — Luke 23:27–28
“A large crowd of people followed Jesus, including many women who mourned and lamented him. Jesus turned to them and said, ‘Daughters of Jerusalem,
do not weep for me; weep instead for yourselves and for your children.’”
Reflection
Jesus sees courageous women who risk their lives for justice,
education, family, and dignity. “We do not lose heart.” (2 Cor 4:16)

Jesus Falls the Third Time

Reflection
A parish in El Paso sheltered hundreds nightly. Strangers became a community
united by faith and hope.

NOVENA ESTACIÓN
Jesús cae por tercera vez
Lectura Bíblica — Salmo 22:15–16

Reflexión
Una parroquia en El Paso albergó a cientos cada noche. Los extraños
se convirtieron en una comunidad unida por la fe y la esperanza.

TENTH STATION
Jesus Is Stripped of His Garments
Scripture — John 19:23–24
“When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his clothes
and divided them into four shares, a share for each soldier.
They also took his tunic, but the tunic was seamless,
woven in one piece from the top down. So they said to one another,
‘Let’s not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it will be.’”
Reflection
A migrant family was kidnapped, stripped, and ransomed
while waiting for legal entry.

Jesus Is Nailed to the Cross
Scripture — Luke 23:33–34
“When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him
and the criminals there, one on his right, the other on his left.
Then Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.’”
Reflection
From the Cross, Jesus sees migrant children who are afraid, traumatized,
and alone. “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name
welcomes me.” (Mk 9:37)

and when he had said this he breathed his last.”

A migrant couple lost their unborn child after detention and separation,
yet expressed faith amid suffering.

The Body of Jesus Is Taken Down from the Cross
Scripture — John 19:38–40
“After this, Joseph of Arimathea… asked Pilate if he could remove the body of Jesus.
And Pilate permitted it. So he came and took his body. Nicodemus also came…
They took the body of Jesus and bound it with burial cloths along with the spices,
according to the Jewish burial custom.”

Jesus Is Laid in the Tomb
Scripture — John 19:41–42
“Now in the place where he had been crucified there was a garden,
and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had yet been buried.
So they laid Jesus there because of the Jewish preparation day;
for the tomb was close by.”
Reflection
Sonet, a young asylum seeker with cancer, was denied medical entry
and died in a shelter. A Mass proclaimed hope and God’s mercy.

DÉCIMA CUARTA ESTACIÓN
Jesús es colocado en el sepulcro
Lectura Bíblica — Juan 19:41–42
“En el lugar donde lo habían crucificado había un huerto,
y en el huerto un sepulcro nuevo donde nadie había sido puesto todavía.
Allí pusieron a Jesús, por ser el día de la Preparación de los judíos
y por tener el sepulcro cerca.”
Reflexión
Sonet, un joven solicitante de asilo con cáncer, fue rechazado por razones médicas
y murió en un albergue. Una Misa proclamó la esperanza y la misericordia de Dios.
