The Word Hineni

Hineni (הִנֵּנִי) is a Hebrew word meaning simply: "Here I am." Throughout Scripture, it is the word spoken by those who turn fully toward God when called — not yet knowing what will be asked of them, but answering before they do. It is the posture of availability, trust, and sacred readiness.

The prophets and patriarchs who said it, in order:

• Abraham (Genesis 22:1) — Called to sacrifice his only son, Abraham said Hineni before he even knew what God would ask. His trust was total.

• Jacob (Genesis 31:11; 46:2) — Twice Jacob answered God's call in the night with Hineni — once to return home, once to travel into Egypt. He went wherever God led.

• Moses (Exodus 3:4) — At the burning bush, before receiving his mission to liberate an enslaved people, Moses said Hineni. Holy ground was beneath his feet.

• Samuel (1 Samuel 3:4–10) — A young boy in the Temple, called three times in the night, finally understood: it was God calling. "Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening." Hineni.

• Isaiah (Isaiah 6:8) — In a vision of God enthroned, surrounded by seraphim, Isaiah heard: "Whom shall I send?" And the prophet answered: "Here I am. Send me."

These were not perfect people. They were available people. That is who we are calling into this circle.
